September 3, 2014 – Americans for Responsible Solutions (ARS) PAC today announced it is airing two new 30-second ads in Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District. The ads – ARS PAC’s first of the 2014 cycle – are titled “Personal” and “Nearly Everyone,” and highlight Republican candidate Martha McSally’s opposition to closing existing loopholes that allow individuals to buy guns without a background check at gun shows and online.

The ads draw on new ARS PAC research showing that 86% of Southern Arizonans support expanding background checks to include guns sold online and at gun shows, and that 82% percent of voters say that a candidate’s views on gun violence prevention are a factor when deciding who to vote for in this year’s election.
The research also shows that Ron Barber holds a six-point lead over Martha McSally among likely voters. Barber also remains personally popular with voters (+12 net favorable), and is also viewed favorably by independents and moderates. In contrast, a plurality of voters have a negative view of Martha McSally (-12 net favorable), and she remains unpopular with independents and moderates. ”Like nearly everyone in Southern Arizona, Ron Barber supports commonsense laws that will help reduce gun violence in our communities without interfering with the rights of responsible gun owners. But Martha McSally wants to protect the loopholes that allow domestic abusers, convicted felons, and the dangerously mentally ill to buy guns without a background check,” said Hayley Zachary, Executive Director of Americans for Responsible Solutions. ”When it comes to commonsense policies that help reduce gun violence, Martha McSally is out of step with Southern Arizonans and in lockstep with the corporate gun lobbyists.”
The ads will air on cable and broadcast for at least two weeks and are backed by a six figure buy.
ARS PAC will support candidates from both parties this fall who have demonstrated the courage to stand up for commonsense laws like expanded background checks and communicate with voters on gun violence prevention.
